Holly Grove Middle School is a 196,600-sq.-ft., structural steel-framed building of a prototype design, one of three prototypes built by D.H. Griffin. The reuse of this prototype allows our owner to save money in design and allows us to construct them with enhanced efficiency. The building includes a three-story classroom tower, administrative offices, athletic fields and support areas such as kitchen, cafeteria, gymnasium, theater, stage and auditorium. One unique green feature of the building is that the classrooms have slightly sloped ceilings; ceilings that are highest at the windows and slope gently down toward the door. When combined with reflective sunshades on the windows, this design allows for maximum daylighting in the classrooms, providing a naturally lit learning environment that saves money by reducing energy usage.
